Eskom was established in South Africa in 1923 as the Electricity Supply Commission. In July 2002, it was converted into a public, limited liability company, wholly owned by government.

Eskom is one of the top 20 utilities in the world by generation capacity (net maximum self-generated capacity: 41 194MW). Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa. Eskom directly provides electricity to about 45% of all end-users in South Africa. The other 55% is resold by redistributors (including municipalities).

Eskom generates, transmits and distributes electricity to customers in the industrial, mining, commercial, agricultural and residential sectors, and to redistributors. Eskom sells electricity directly to about 3 000 industrial customers, 1 000 mining customers, 49 000 commercial customers, 84 000 agricultural customers and more than four million residential customers (of whom the majority are pre-paid customers). Most of the sales are in South Africa, with other southern African countries accounting for a small percentage.

Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa. Eskom generates, transmits and distributes electricity to industrial, mining, commercial, agricultural and residential customers and redistributors. Additional power stations and major power lines are being built to meet rising electricity demand in South Africa. Eskom will continue to focus on improving and strengthening its core business of electricity generation, transmission, trading and distribution.

Eskom buys electricity from and sells electricity to the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The future involvement in African markets outside South Africa (that is the SADC countries connected to the South African grid and the rest of Africa) is limited to those projects that have a direct impact on ensuring security of supply for South Africa.

Senior Manager Supply Chain Planning

Minimum Requirements:

• 3 or 4 year Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering
• 1 or 2 year relevant post graduate degree preferred
• Greater than 5 years management experience in a Supply chain environment including solid demand forecasting and supply planning experience

Key Responsibilities

1. Development of the Supply Chain Planning Strategy
2. Direct the integration of various divisional strategic plans into accurate medium and long term forecasts for strategic commodities, projects and key service
3. Provide strategic Supply Chain Planning advice to the business
4. Drive and plan the performance of the Supply Chain Planning capability to demonstrably optimise the Eskom Supply Chain
5. Lead and direct the formal interfaces and relationships with internal and external stakeholders
6. Direct the resources for the Supply Chain Planning capability
