The company was previously known as PT Ratelindo, which was established in August 1993, as a subsidiary of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk, which is engaged in telecommunications in DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java-based Extended Time Division Multiple Access (ETDMA). In September 2003, PT Ratelindo changed its name to PT Bakrie Telecom, which then migrate to CDMA2000-1x, and start launching products Esia. At first Esia networks can only be enjoyed in Jakarta, Banten and West Java, but until the end of 2007 has reached 26 cities throughout Indonesia and continues to expand into other cities.
In 2006, Bakrie Telecom has went public by listing its shares in Jakarta Stock Exchange.
On 17 September 2007, the Indonesian government gave licenses for fixed line international direct dialing to the Bakrie Telecom Indonesia. As part of this license, Bakrie Telecom is required to build a permanent network for international direct dialing. In the first 5-year, Bakrie Telecom is required to build a network that connects Batam, Singapore and the United States. If the target is not met, the government will be fined Bakrie Telecom. Director General of Post and Telecommunications Basuki Yusuf Iskandar will be able to estimate the Bakrie commercialize these services in the next three years
In June 2010, Bakrie Telecom has a new subsidiary of the Bakrie Connectivity or BCONNECT to be engaged in the broadband data. For a start, BCONNECT Aha has launched EVDO modem which has a built-in with Google's Chrome browser in it. (Source: Wiki)
